Counsellor

Kia ora, my name is Fabian. I have a diverse experience of living between countries and cultures as a Singapore-born East Asian in Aotearoa New Zealand. I currently live in the Western region of Tamaki-Makaurau (Auckland) practising for the past 5 years with adults on their journeys with mental health. Previously, I have held roles as a community builder, nutritionist, teacher, designer, gardener, musician, and chef. These add to a holistic worldview that informs the way I practise my professional and personal life.

I am a provisional member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors and completed a Master of Counselling at University of Waikato. I have accumulated over 700 hours counselling adults from various cultural backgrounds, sexual and gender orientations and ages who struggle with a broad range of issues including trauma, relationships, addictions, food restrictions, grief, depression, anxiety and burn-out.

I work with individuals, and when they wish, with their partners, their friends and families too. I also work with group and community in educational and therapeutic settings.

Narrative therapy practitioner

Narrative counselling is an alternative to mainstream therapeutic styles. It offers a different way of thinking about the problems in life. Originating from Australia and New Zealand through the work of Michael White and David Epston, practitioners pay attention to the use of language and how the construction of stories shape our “normal”. Narrative approaches help people discover what it means to be uniquely them and often leaves people surprised, light-hearted and uplifted.

I offer these consultations through my private practice online on Zoom at the moment. Although my skills can be used in most situations, I take particular interest in all areas of trauma (sexual, abuse, grief etc) and with practices of food restriction and substance misuse. My services are limited to residents of New Zealand only (due to local legislation).

T’ai chi practitioner

T’ai chi chuan is a Chinese martial art style that uses the internal flow of energy instead of external force. Based on the principles of Tao, the movements are concealed, effortless, and efficient. T’ai chi is suitable for all ages and fitness levels. It can also be used for meditation, exercise and cultivating relaxation and balance.

Since 2011, my experience comes from the lineage of Grandmasters Yek Sing Ong, Huang Sheng Shyan and Cheng Man Ching. I have taught classes since 2018 at the Mount Eden Branch of Sing Ong Tai Chi at the St Albans The Martyr Anglican Church on Sundays at 10 to 12pm.

ConTact CARE foundation practitioner

ConTact CARE is a revolutionary bodywork based on restoring your balance and your body's state of ease based on principles of nature. This work releases hidden patterns of trapped pressure from the body, helping people feel lighter and freer.

I am fascinated by the efficacy of this work for addictions to pressure (such as over-working and tendencies toward exhaustion and burn-out) and mental health restoration. As a student, I practice and get supervision with ConTact CARE Auckland and Dale Speedy. I currently offer ConTact CARE work on occasions to meet demand and build experience.
